Northern Lights Tomorrow – In the Wind and Rain

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Tomorrow is pretty interesting. First, plenty of rain is coming. Nothing too serious, but a good 40mm. Enough to get the streets running. That should start overnight with the strongest downpours in through the morning and middle of the day.

There will be some wind with it, but nothing like Saturday. That should come in the 4PM or later timeframe.

And finally, there could very well be some Northern Lights tomorrow. A major solar flare blasted off the sun this morning and the CME should hit us tomorrow morning with auroras lasting all day.

Are you going to be able to see them? Probably not. :) But hey, you never know. If you see any clear spots in the north sky after dark keep an eye out for green or red lights.

And finally, I did not escape unscathed from the 89kph winds yesterday. My roof got a bit exposed after some of my shingles blew loose.

But thanks to a call to Javen Simon roofing, it was fixed quickly and expertly. And Javen’s apparently a big fan of Alberniweather.ca so a doubly great guy. Thanks Javen!

(And no, that’s not a paid advertisement like you hear on the radio :) Just happy my roof is all put back together)

Updated: Power Outage at Alberniweather

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

The power came back on just as I was headed out the door. Site is updating normally.

Around 1300 other BCHydro customers in Port Alberni have been affected as well.

Current Conditions will not be updating until the power comes back on. BC Hydro says 8:30AM. I haven’t checked the batteries in my weather station for a year or two, hopefully they last that long.

The rain will continue today and tomorrow. It will be heavier tomorrow than today. It’s also cold enough for snow to fall in Sutton Pass and other localities so watch for that. Apparently there is black ice in Nanaimo.

It’s going to get below freezing for all of us on the weekend, more chances of snow on Sunday.

There will also be a chance for another bout of wind on Tuesday afternoon.
