More Rain and Wind then Summer!

OK, not quite summer. But by the end of this week we should see some very pleasant temperatures and pleasant skys.

They’re still telling us we’re going to get some wind this morning, we certainly haven’t seen anything yet.

So far Friday looks like the nicest day. Current forecast is for a balmy 14 degrees! If you haven’t cut your grass yet this year, you’re probably regretting it! :D Well, by Saturday it should be dried out enough to cut.

I’m going to go dig up some long range forecasts. I think by the end of this weekend we might be wondering just what May Long Weekend might hold in store. :)

Well that sucks… I’m gonna have to get a bigger UPS. The power wasn’t back on when I had to leave for Nanaimo, so I lost 6 hours of data.

Oh no!? Doesn’t your station have a battery backup of it’s own Nick?

Maybe your system is different but my Vantage Pro runs off a few AA batteries (which I should really replace come to think of it, they’re still the originals!) and the actual data logger is attached to the station, so if the power goes out to the main server, the station itself still logs the data and then the server catches up once the main power comes back on if the UPS can’t handle the time.

Down with data gaps!

Yes, the station console has batteries in it, but once it loses 110VAC, it stops sending data to the serial port. The UPS kept the console going, but didn’t have enough juice to keep the computer going to process what the console was sending.

I have a working plan to build a big (~200-250AH capacity) UPS, just have to get the last 2 pieces together.

At least Nick’s station doesn’t mind HF RF energy. Went to check in to a net down in 3MHz land and the weather computer choked. Once it came back up (auto reboot) I noted several values were way out of the ballpark – not sure why this happens. Think the RF is spiking the data line between the console and ISS.
