Rain Rain, what about Christmas?

So you might be wondering what the Christmas forecast is? Well… it’s still a ways out there… but you might just be looking at it right now.

That’s right. A little bit of wind, a bunch of wet..and lots of green.

It’s not all bad news though, there is start amongst the weather blogs that another big Arctic high is supposed to build into our area again and drop the temperature down sometime in the next week or so. Will it be in time to turn one of those Pacific fronts into a White Christmas? Hard to say for now… but the possibility is there.

Hope everyone got a chance to enjoy the snow a little bit.

Tis windy today.. not sure what its doing on the coast, as Mike’s wind gear is out of comission.. He’s got a shiny new Vantage Pro2 to put up, but has to re-program his custom software to speak in Davis and not Oregon Scientific.

As Nick stated above, I’m currently learning Davis-speak ;-). I’m almost done, just have a few values to figure out, and a couple to re-do. Then I have to locate a 50ft phone extension cord (those are hard to find!) for the wind sensor, and mount everything outside. I’ll worry about burying the cables in conduit in the spring when the weather is better. But, it was windy all day, and rainy too.

What software are you using to talk to the Vantage? I can’t recommend wview enough. Since you’re already on linux. It’s a great platform.

Mike is using some custom homebrew developed in Delphi for his wx software.

What Nick said. I wrote the software a long time ago, and used to use SBWeather to garner the live data to a file that my program would access, but then I learned OS-speak to get the data directly. The program has evolved from a simple webpage parser for weather conditions to a complex weather and AIS data receive and parsing program. Luckily, most of this upgrade is in the reception and decoding of the new data. Almost Done!
