New All time Record For July 27

It was reported on the news that Port Alberni set a new record at the airport for this day. But that, I believe, is only since the station at the Airport has been there… so I did some digging in the archives here (i love this stuff)!

Turns out that today was a record high for the new weather station at the Airport (since 1992)… and, as far as I can see from the EC records files I have here going back to 1905, it is an alltime record for any EC reporting station in the Alberni Valley* for July 27.

The closest runner up.
The Station at Robertson Creek hit 38.0C on July 27, 1998.

*There have been 10 stations in the Alberni Valley, roughly in order of first record… Beaver Creek, Lupsi Cupsi (near Catalyst), Port Alberni City Hall, Redford, Robertson Creek, Shuhum Creek, Cox Lake, McCoy Lake, Old Airport Somass, Automated New Airport.

Whew! That was a warm one!
Interesting that EC recorded 38.5C yesterday, you got 37.33C, and Nick’s reached 40.5C!
If you think it’s hot here though, Death Valley is sitting at 37C at 5:00 am, and it’s forecast to go up to 52C, that’s 126F, today!

Nice. I backpacked through Australia many moons ago and went through the “red centre” through Cooper Peedy.

It was over 50C. I’ve never experienced anything like it.

They all live underground there… it’s a constant 25C or so.

the low last night was 19C. That’s a pretty high low.

The low in our house was 27C! UUggh!

HEhehe, out here on the coast we got down to 15.5C at 0600 hours this morning. We’re back up to 24C at the moment. I saw that we got up to 27.6C yesterday.

On our trip up from Victoria via Port Renfrew, I saw 36C on the truck’s overhead display a couple times. Yeah, it was toasty. And with the humidity, it made it hard to breathe too.
