I'm still cleaning up from the '06 storms!

EC's Drought Watch web site is interesting to poke around in.

http://www.agr.gc.ca/pfra/drought/mapscc_e.htm

According to this, we are at 40% - 60% of our average precipitations from April 1 - June 28. Yikes!

My well (artisan spring) has become extremely low in the past month - far earlier than ever before! I'm pretty scared for what this summer has in store for us when we have no water!

There was an article in one of the local papers last week I believe about the China Creek RoR station going down to one turbine and likely being done for the summer by the end of the month. I believe they said that was almost a month earlier than previous years.

Yeah, even he was surprised. Then mumbled something about issuing hurricane warnings. We were without power for almost 8 hours that day. I had to run to the local Co-op gas bar for fuel for the genny. Luckily, they had their own turning and so could actually pump gas!

What a storm season that was!

On another note, was into Port Alberni on Saturday, and I noticed that the outfall pool for Doran Lake was quite low, leading me to believe that the Doran Lake powerhouse is offline, probably due to lack of water. That does not bode well.....

Cheers!

Wow. I bet he questioned ya! :)

For those uninitiated... 81 knots is about 150kph... This would be Category 2 for a Tropical Cyclone. 100knots is 185kph, and Cape Beale is the point of land at the south end of Barkley Sound near Bamfield.

Yeah, I remember that December storm! I got called in for work and ended up working 5 distresses, not to mention taking the lighthouse weathers and nearly falling out of my chair when Cape Beale reported winds of SW 81 knots and gusting 100 knots. Yes that's right, gusting 100 knots! Yikes! Even Mark Madryga himself questioned me on that one!

Hope we don't see any more of those storms!
