Earth Hour might be really easy for some tonight!

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

With Wind warnings out for the West and East coast of the Island it might be pretty easy for some people to turn off the lights and save some power tonight… there might not be any electricity flowing to turn off!

The winds aren’t slated to be huge, but there coould be enough gusts to knock down some trees and branches and take the lines down with it so the candles and flashlights and non-power-hungry activities you might have already planned for tonight might just come in handy!

The only electricity I plan on using during Earth Hour (between 8:30 and 9:30PM PDT) will be the computers that power my weather and energy sensors and upload to this website… all the hardware draws about 150W total. I’m going to be consolidating it to get that down under 100W in the next few weeks I hope.

If you want to monitor my energy consumption you can see it at www.murkyview.com. I’ll be posting a side-by-side comparison of my consumption last night (Friday) between 8:30 and 9:30PM with tonights consumption to see what difference it made.

Have fun!

It’s Spring… take your pick on the Weather!

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

This morning when I drove to Qualicum at 5:50 it was snowing heavily on the Hump and all the way into Coombs. Luckily it didn’t stick much. Then it was sunny most of the day, quite beautiful really! Tomorrow, probably more of the same. Morning will be variable, then some rain, then some sun Friday, then some rain and, yes, Eve, Wind on Saturday! :D

So ya, take your pick. Wait 5 minutes or drive 5km and roll the dice on what kind of weather you’ll get.

Nothing but fun! It is still cool for March. Heard Mark Madryga on CKNW this afternoon mention that we are well-below normal in terms of temperatures in the region. Expect that to continue into April. As long as frost doesn’t kill our daffodils that are just starting to pop up in the yard, I’ll be happy!
