Feels like Snow

Friday, January 18th, 2008

You know how sometimes it just “feels” like snow.

I got that feeling this afternoon… EC is calling for showers or flurries tonight and tomorrow. Might make for a nice weekend with the kids.

I’ve posted a Week long Webcam animation. Combining the last week of images. Once again, you’ll need Quicktime installed and/or updated to view it. Click the link to see, or Right Click to download to your computer.

Quicktime Animations Enabled

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Hi everyone.

You may have noticed that the Animations sometimes didn’t seem to include all the days images. Not sure why that was happening, seems to be a bug in the software I was using to create the animated GIFs.

So, I have switched to Quicktime movies instead… they are much smaller (quicker to download), with no loss of quality, which is great. I can also produce three versions, including a small version for cellphones or modem connections.

You will be able to see the 3 versions on the days animation page. You need Apple Quicktime or iTunes w/Quicktime installed. If you don’t have that, download it here.

To create the animations, I have to manually download the images to my computer, and upload the movies back. So the days animation might take a little longer to appear.

Enjoy!

Brrrr!

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Coldest morning of the season so far… the stars were beautiful last night! Hopefully the fog should stay away and we should get a classic cold winter day!

Should make for a nice view from the camera too.

Enjoy!

Webcam Animation Online

Friday, January 11th, 2008

I set up automatic creation of a movie of the day’s images (5 minute intervals).

There is a link from the Full Size Webcam page (click on the webcam image below, or in the Webcam Menu)…

There will also be individual links to each day under the Weather Archive—> Station Almanacs—> Full Page Webcam—> Date.

The Animations are very big. Almost 40MB. I’ll be creating smaller versions later. But just so you know, if you’re on a Cable or DSL connection it will take you 5 – 10 minutes to download. If you’re on modem, you may not want to bother.

UPDATE: When I was moving the webcam, I tried in a vain attempt to make faces at the camera… but as usual, I have been out done by our cat.

CatCam

Expect rain today… I’ll be attempting to fully weatherproof the camera.

Webcam is Up and Running!

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Hi everyone!

Well, the Webcam is up and running… currently it’s just looking out my basement window. Not exactly ideal as it’s under our porch but any other window and it’d be looking into our neighbours yard, which isn’t cool. I likely won’t be able to install it on the roof until the weekend at least. Need some decent weather. :)

I’ve decided to point it NorthWest, towards Comox Glacier. The Sun will eventually damage it if I point it directly South… I’m thinking of framing it with the mill stacks in the far left corner and hopefully the Beauforts in the far right. It has a 90 degree lens on it. It actually looks wider than I had even hoped.

If you’re looking for the Highway 4 webcam. There is a direct link in the Webcams menu.
