Just took the dog outside and got pelted with some wet snow. Be careful if you’re going up the hump today, might be a little slippery in the morning, but it should turn to rain by mid-morning.

After today, the forecast doesn’t look too shabby for a few days… but there *is* some significant precipitation in the long range models for late next week. And yes… still cool! So don’t take those winter tires off yet!

UPDATE: From Murkyview.com

A new entry at the National Snow and Ice Data Center out of Colorado is out and the news is that even with this years La Nina induced cold temperatures in parts of North America, the trend of diminishing Arctic sea ice shows little sign of abating.

  1. This better be the last of the white stuff! Bring on the wind to blow it all away….Yay!

  2. I’m thinking of starting a petition to the Ministry of Transport to get a highway cam in Sutton Pass! It’s the worst stretch of road on the entire Island for winter weather, and there is no cam. =( What’s happening on the Hump is not always a good indicator.

I didn’t have to drive it today, but I don’t expect to be “out of the woods” for the highway 4 passes until June!

A co worker also suggested that if not Sutton Pass, a cam near the West Bay Hotel on Sproat Lake or perhaps Taylor River rest stop (last chance to turn around before Sutton)

  3. I’d love to have a cam on Sutton’s! We came through into Port Alberni this morning and it was snowing, though the trucks were out working on it. Then tonight I had to tow our camper trailer home through another snowstorm. This time it was 4×4 time to get up the East side of Sutton’s.

    What a joke!

  4. And power… I highly doubt Hydro is gonna drop a setup down transformer in for a simple webcam/light/bandwidth connection.

As for cell signal, its quite the bouncy rattle path up there. Would be a decent radio link to the highways yard, but I don’t see them forking out for that either.
