A-Channel Broke my Weather Server

OK, not really… but David Wilchar was here this morning doing an interview for A-Channel. You can see it (if you promise to close your eyes when I’m on screen) probably tonight on Vancouver Island Report. David didn’t say exactly when.

Anyway, in the process of the interview I showed off the little weather server… and apparently wiggle the wires too much, unplugging one of them. So that’s why it’s been 5.5C all morning :).

It’s all fixed now…

Got some good gusts today! Plenty of rain too. EC called it pretty much dead on. 20mm rain and 60kph winds. Good going guys!

UPDATE 4:51PM: I just looked out my window here and up above our house the frontal system is passing. Beautiful contrast between light clouds on bottom, dark frontal clouds in the middle, a great wall stretching up and curling away into the blue sky behind.

aww, heck, I’ll just post a picture… click to see larger version:

  1. Chris, this just makes me so unsettled…..where is my wind?….where is my snow? Is this truly a lull…please decifer the radar/satelight etc. I had only a little satisfaction today. The Beaver Creek Weather Geeek.

  2. I don’t know Eve! Maybe the gods decided to spare you the trauma! It was pretty wild up here for a while. Don’t worry, I’m sure your time will come! Judging by the Satellite there is a giant system headed our way for the weekend!

  3. Thanks bud…I’ll take it easy now. Have to pick my son up from work at 10pm. Saw that next low coming…hope its a good one.

  4. great story!! Bruce says we aren’t weather geeks, just weather brothers and sisters lol!! I didn’t know you were in contact with evvironment canada and a-channel, very cool. Your a celebrity now!!!
The wind was very blustry here in Nanaimo yesterday, sounds like another storm tonight.

  5. Hahah thanks. Ya the weather brotha’ thing really cracked me up.

Ya I report in to Environment Canada as a “Severe Weather Watcher”. Anyone can be one… they have info on their website. And I’m on the “schoolnet” thingy that A-Channel uses. It’s actually set up by a climatologist (who’s on the IPCC!) at UVIC. So I send in my data directly from my server to them as well.

Definitely looks like we have some serious weather coming at us!

  6. It’s been Slushing since about 7PM. Really nasty… but not sticking much just a thick yuk on everything.

It is snowing now though, and accumulating apparently as it’s not registering on the current rain rate.
